As of February 10th, it seems that both parties involved in the election are finally going to meet and work towards a resolution. It is thought they may share power for two years at which time there would be another election. Peace is a long time coming. Over 1000 people are reported to have been killed so far in the ethnic violence. Thankfully the violence does seem to be diminishing as a ban on public protests was recently lifted. Still, our teamates in Turkana have seen no changes besides food and fuel shortages.
February 26th - We have heard good news and bad. The good news is that the violence has calmed down enough for most of the ministries to continue. The Nairobi team is now focused on addressing the aftermath of the protests. In Turkana, things remain unchanged. On a bad note, discussions between the parties are going nowhere. Both sides remain firm in there demands for power with little visible desire for a resolution. There have been threats of resumed protests and violence.
