Hello all! Here is an update on our progress of raising our support to become missionaries among the Turkana people of Kenya.
This spring Chad and I completed the three courses required by CMF to join the Kenya Field Team. The two courses through Fuller Theological Seminary in California were Anthropology and Church Growth. We also completed the Perspectives on World Missions course through a church in Columbus. Previously Chad attended well drilling training in Texas and I completed Community Health Evangelism (CHE) training in Indianapolis. Once we are closer to leaving for Kenya we will complete 5 weeks of Culture and Language training in Colorado.
For those of you in Ohio, we will be at Shiloh this Sunday (Oct 7) for their ministry fair during the morning service. We are looking forward to spending the morning with this supporting church. On October 14th we will be in Gahanna at Stonybrook. We will be giving an update at all 4 of the morning services as well as speaking, answering questions and visiting during the Sunday School hour. Please make sure to join us if you are able.
Currently our teammates are spread out and are looking forward to all being together in Kenya. Gene and Melba Morden and Lynn Pottenger are the only teammates in Turkana to take care of the ministries. Melba emailed recently and said all was going well but they were really looking forward to our arrival. Kip and Katy Lines are in the States on furlough. They are reporting to their supporting churches and individuals. Scott and Kristi Seidel are in the support raising process also. Kristi is a doctor and Scott is a nurse, so we are very excited to have medical support joining the Turkana team. All of you should have received a mailing from CMF recently that had an article about Bob and Karon Chapman that retired from CMF this past May. The Chapmanās served in Turkana since 1977 and Kristi Seidel is one of their daughters. Rick and Debbie Bruen hope to return to Turkana in 2009.
We are excited to report that we have 7 supporting churches, 65 faithful individual monthly supporters and 85 dedicated prayer partners. We are still in the process of talking with other churches and individuals to raising the rest of our support. We must be 100% funded to leave for Kenya.
Chad has put together a website for us. Please check it out and pass the address on to others. www.harrisfamilymission.com
The National Missionary Convention will take place this November in Cincinnati. This is the convention I attended in 2003 that put us in touch with CMF and thus the Turkana! If any of you have any questions about it let me know.
Thank you for your interest in our ministry with the Turkana. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Kitopia Akuj (God bless),
Kara
